The cedar tree has been revered for its spiritual significance for thousands of years. Its wood was used for the doors of sacred temples and burned in cleansing ceremonies for purification. Cedar has a long history of use in indigenous sweat lodge ceremonies and the tree was thought to house important gods and to be an entrance to higher spiritual realms.
Smudging can help combat negativity in a home, clear the energy in your field, and allows you to start with a clean slate. Smudging is an ancient ceremony in which you burn sacred plants, such as sage, to allow the smoke to clear and bless a space.
Light the end of the cedar stick with a lighter, candle, or matches then blow on until fire is extinguished. It will then begin to smoke and smolder. Hold over a firesafe dish and carrying through the house.
