Abramelin Oil – Ceremonial and Hoodoo Ritual Oil for Protection & Power

$9.50

Our handcrafted Abramelin Oil follows the legendary recipe described in The Book of Abramelin, a medieval text attributed to Abraham of Worms. This work tells of an Egyptian mage named Abraham who passed on a powerful magical system to Abraham of Worms. Centuries later, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, occultist Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers translated and adapted the book, popularizing the oil and its rituals within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. These teachings influenced later magical traditions, including Wicca and Thelema.

Mathers made a notable change to the original biblical recipe—substituting galangal root for calamus. Some believe this was a translation error, while others think it was intentional to distinguish it from the holy oil given to Moses, which contained myrrh, cassia, cinnamon, calamus, and olive oil.

Contains cinnamon, cassia, myrrh, and galangal in a base of fractionated coconut oil.

Symbolism & Uses in Tradition
In Jewish tradition, the olive represents domestic happiness and security, myrrh is sacred to the Lord, calamus symbolizes sweetness and fertility, and cinnamon is cherished for its warmth. In hoodoo, some of these meanings shift: myrrh and olive retain their sacred and protective roles, cinnamon is prized for drawing money and luck, and calamus is known for subtle influence and control. Mathers’ galangal substitution adds a layer of magical defense—galangal root, also called “Chewing John” or “Little John to Chew,” is used for protection and court case work. An old hoodoo trick is to chew the root and spit the juice on a courtroom floor to influence proceedings; today, many practitioners place pieces in their shoes before a court appearance.
